Your First Freediving Course: What to Expect and What to Bring

Booked your first freediving course? Here's exactly what to expect, so you can turn up relaxed and ready.

Before you come

  • Do your SSI online learning. It unlocks as soon as you're registered. Download the MySSI app, add a profile photo, and work through it at your own pace.
  • Fill in your medical form. Complete our self-check medical form. If something's flagged on page one, you get a second chance on page two. Still flagged? Print page three and take it to a doctor to sign you off.

What to bring

  • Swimwear, a towel and warm layers for after
  • A water bottle and lunch
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • Your own mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit if you have them

No gear? Let us know your sizes and we'll sort you out. Or browse our instructor top picks.

On the day

We start with breathwork to slow your body down, then relaxation, equalising, and safety and rescue skills in calm water. Then we head out into the ocean for line diving, buddy safety and your first deep, calm freedives.

You don't need to be a strong swimmer or super fit. You just need to be curious and comfortable in the water.
