From the open ocean, home to Aotearoa

For 25 years, the ocean was Sacha Williamson's workplace — freediving and guiding across 45 countries, from elite superyachts to commercial harbour work, scientific expeditions, and UN and AusAID projects across the Pacific.

That work taught one lesson above all: the people who can go anywhere don't remember the polish — they remember the moments. The whale that rose beside the boat. The meal shared after a big day in the water. The stillness of a single breath, deep below the surface.

So Sacha came home to Aotearoa and founded Freedive Aotearoa — New Zealand's first dedicated freediving school — with one idea: that standard of ocean experience shouldn't belong only to people with a yacht. It should belong to anyone willing to take a breath and drop in.

This isn't about performance. It's about presence.

Today we teach people to meet the ocean calmly and confidently — from their first breath-hold to instructor level — then take them somewhere extraordinary to use it: the marine reserves of Te Taitokerau Northland, the clearest water in the Pacific, and a recovery studio to put it all back together.

And we're still building. Every season, every course, every expedition.
